Kericho County Government governor Dr. Erick Mutahi survives impeachment in the senate after 34 senators vote to terminate the impeachment hearings against him. The governor was accused of gross misconduct and abuse of the constitution among other charges. The governor denied all the charges and pleaded innocent of the charges. 34 senators votes to terminate the impeachment hearings against 10 senators who wanted the hearings to proceed.
Dr. Erick Mutai becomes is the latest governor to be impeached after the latest impeachment motion of Governor Kawira Mwangaza who has gfaced impeachment trials severally including the last one where the senate approved her removal from office but she was upheld by the courts. Impeachment has been the topic in the Kenyan news after the ongoing impeachment of the Deputy President H.E Rigathi Gachagua who was impeached by 141 mps at the National assembly and awaits impeachment hearings at the Senate begining Wednesday 16th, October 2024.
The Deputy president has shown efforts to block the impeachment by filing cases at the courts which has failed severally. Among the issues raised against him, Some charges were refered to the Chief Justice Martha Koome to for a bench to listen to the charges.
