Inspector General of Police

The Inspector general National Police service Mr. Douglas Kanja is set to retire in March this year upon the lapse of his contract. Mr Douglas Kanja who succeeded Mr. Mutyambai in the office of the ispector general is said to be above the retirement age which is 60 years.

Upon his exit from the national police service, the position of inspector general will be filled by another officer.

List of potential top corps for the position of Inspector General

As Mr. Douglas Kanja’s exit from the office of the inspector general National Police Service nears, several suitors have been identified who have the potential to succeed Mr. Kanja in the office of the inspector general. Among the list include: Deputy Inspector Gemeral Kenya Police Service Eliud Langat, Deputy Inspector General Administration Police Service Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, Former Nairobi police commander Bungei and former police spokesperson Mr. Charles Owino.

Qualifications and experience of potential inspector general

  • Mr. Eliud Langat- Mr Langat has serviced in the National police service for a priod of more than 20 years in different capacities. Before serving in the office of the inspector general, Langat was the immediate commandant General service Unit, He also served in different capacities in the directorate of criminal investigations including leading the bomb disposal unit.
  • Mr. Gilbert Masengeli- Mr. Masengeli has the required experience for the office of the inspector general having served in the deputy inspector general administration police service and other high capacities in the administration police service.
  • Mr Bungei served Nairobi as the Regional commander before he was transfered. Masengeli came to the limelight during the Gen Z protests in Nairobi which led to invasion of parliament.
  • Mr. Charles Owino served as the police spokesperson in Jogoo house before among other several positions in the National Police service. he is in a better position to be the inspector general having proven his capabilities to run the top office.
