Kenya Prisons Service announces recruitment of professional cadets’ officers, technicians and artisans into the Kenya Prisons service countrywide.

Qualifications to apply as cadet officer to Kenya Prisons Service

To qualify to apply as a professional cadet officer in the Kenya Prisons Service, one must possess the following qualifications.

  • Must be a Kenyan citizen
  • Have a valid national identification card
  • Have no criminal record
  • Be between the age of 18-28 for diploma and certificate holders
  • Be between the ages of 18-30 for degree holders
  • Be at least 4feet 4inches tall for men and 5feet 2inches for women
  • Be physically and mentally fit
  • Have a good hearing and clear vision
  • Female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during training.
  • Upon recruitment, candidates will undergo mandatory 9 months government sponsored paramilitary training for artisans and 13 months for cadet officers.

Deadline for applications in the Kenya Prisons Service recruitment

All prospective candidates are required to apply for the advertised positions and fill PSC 2 form revised 2007that can be downloaded from www.publicservice.go.ke and attach photocopies of relevant academic and professional certificates and their national identification cards. Completed forms should be addressed to;

The applications should reach the Commissioner General of Prisons before 30th April 2025 by 5:00pm

Academic/Technical qualifications for cadets and artisans

  1. Professional cadet officers Must possess a relevant undergraduate degree from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  2. Technicians’ candidates must have a relevant certificate/diploma from recognized institution and be registered with relevant bodies where applicable.
  3. Artisan candidates must possess a minimum mean grade of D+ at KCSE or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution and: (i) Certificate in government trade test grade i/ii from a recognized institution or (ii) Certificate in craft or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
