Tree hugging

In the recent past few days, Kenya has become the world most trending nation. This is because of a unique way of doing things. Kenyan youths have found a way of trending and getting famous. The fame itself has come from tree hugging.

Truphena Muthoni tree hugging

Truphena Muthoni is a young girl from Muranga county Kenya. She is the one who invented the tree hugging exercise. Truphena Mutoni hugged a tree for a total 72 hours nonstop. This brought her to fame attracting several government leaders. Muthoni was hosted in Statehouse Nairobi by president Ruto.

Muthoni’s act was founded on climate conservation. He chose tree hugging as a silent protest against cutting down trees. Muthoni successfully broke her own record of tree hugging and entered the Guiness World Records as the first human being to hug a tree for the longest time.

Pastor James Irungu and tree hugging

Pastor James Irungu also took this challenge of tree hugging where he was determined to beat Truphena Muthoni’s 72 hours record. Irungu decided to do the tree hugging exercise for a period of 80 hours. His cause was to raise awareness about cancer.

Criticism and celebration

Pastor Irungu’s act was met by mixed reactions from Kenyans online and offline. Irungu was criticized for several reasons amongst them being displaying an mpesa number. Kenyans were furious on the reason he had displayed his number while he was doing the tree hugging. His act was termed as a way of soiliciting money from poor Kenyans in the name of supporting his cause.

Another reason pastor Irungu was criticised is the reason he chose a challenge which was someones idea and not his. Kenyans did not hesistate asking why Irungu did not come up with his own idea and instead chose to copy another person.
