The deputy president of the republic of Kenya H.E Rigathi Gachagua was today at the Senate to answer to charges raised against him. The deputy president pleaded not guilty of all the 11 charges saying they are but allegations against him in order to remove him from office. The hearings aginst the deputy president Gachagua after the National assembly voting to remove him from office were presented to the senate for hearing and determination.
Appearing at the Senate, he was accompanied by his legal team ready to defend him against the charges. The deputy president is expected to appear at the Senate tomorrow to table his defence to the Senate after which the senators will vote on whether to uphold the impeachment or to withdraw it.
If the Deputy president will be impeached tomorrow, the president has 14days to nominate a candidate and 60days to present the name to parliament for approval or rejection. This becomes a litmus taste to see whether a deputy or president can be removed from office by impeachment.
