In several occassions, there have been complains from road users on the conduct of bodaboda riders. In most cases, they operate casually in that they usually don’t follow traffic rules and whenever something wrong happens, they will become roudy and destroy the vehicle involved or even burn them.
In this specific case, its alleged that the new Toyota Landcruiser knocked down two people killing them on the spot as result causing the bodaboda riders to stone and se t the vehicle ablaze. Most of the bodaboda riders operate without having a driving license and no training in driving and road use.
Where do the Boda boda riders actually go wrong on the roads? Introduction of motorcycles in Kenya has greatly assisted in the transport sector and created employment to many young people who could otherwise be jobless today. However this came with much negative impact to the society. Some of the misbehaviours of bodaboda in the road include but is not limited to the following.
- Riding on the wrong side of the road
- Overtaking from the wrong side of the road
- Riding on footpaths
- Overlapping
- Ovespeeding
- Overtaking without indication
- Overloading
When they do all these among others they end up causing accidents which end up causing deaths on the roads. In most cases when this accidents occur, the riders dont accept to be on the wrong and therefore they end up ganging up and causing lose to property and damage.
